Redeemer Saltash: A Brief History
Redeemer Saltash was planted out from Redeemer Plymouth in 2021 following seven years of a small community gathering in Jon and Dee’s front room to pray for and dream about seeing a Bible-preaching, Spirit-led, Worshipping, Disciple-making church in the town.
Having gotten involved in Saltash community life since before we even launched as a church, running the Cardboard Boat Race as part of the annual Saltash Regatta and helping hundreds of families explore the real meaning of Christmas at the Festival, we are a familiar feature at the heart of our brilliant town.
Getting started
During the COVID-19 epidemic, as churches across the world had to shut down, Redeemer went online. As rules began to relax, we met at The Core Youth and Community Centre, sitting in masks, watching church on the big screen. When the lockdown ended, rather than returning to Plymouth, we took the faith step of launching a church plant.
Jon and Dee spearheaded the early phases of church life, seeing us grow in number from 20 or so to regularly gathering more than 50 people. After three years, Simon joined Jon as elders, and the plant grew to be an established church.
Church life today
Now regularly gathering 60-70 people most Sundays, we still have in our hearts a passion to be involved in, and serve our, town community life. We still want to preach the Bible, see the Holy Spirit at work, worship together and see more people encounter Christ, discovering the hope and joy and peace and wholeness that only He can, and see followers of Jesus grow in their faith.
